HORSE

Arya

Arya is a true model of resiliency and the power of sanctuary to completely transform an animal’s life. Rescued from severe starvation, her life was first saved by an incredible rescue in Winston-Salem. Red Feather Equine Sanctuary gave her the chance she so deeply deserved. She spent a year there gaining trust in humans, and becoming healthy. From there, she came to our sanctuary to continue her recovery. It was clear that while she had made tremendous gains in every way, she was not yet relaxing within the larger herd, and hadn’t really formed strong bonds with any of the horses. It was decided that coming here would allow her the chance to feel safe and connected within a smaller herd.

What followed has been nothing short of remarkable. With time, consistency and compassion, she has blossomed. She is now fully bonded with all of the horses, and is so attached that any separation, even for a few minutes, means that we’ll see her standing at the fence line keeping watch over her friends. Her once-intense food resource guarding has improved dramatically, her nervousness has softened into calm confidence, and she has learned how to form healthy trusting social bonds.

Today, Arya is finally able to enjoy life as it was always meant to be - safe, nourished, and surrounded by friends.
