Our Mission

Our mission is to provide life long sanctuary for farm animals in need.

A Sanctuary Built to Last

Blue Ridge Rescue Barn began with a dream: to create a place where farm animals in need could find safety, exceptional care, and a home for life.

Our original donors believed deeply in that vision and provided the resources to establish this property and prepare it for its purpose as a sanctuary. Because of their generosity, Blue Ridge Rescue Barn was able to begin its work with something incredibly special—a beautiful, thoughtfully designed place ready to welcome animals in need.

Today, our nonprofit is deeply grateful to have the use of this remarkable facility. The property and its physical assets are privately owned, and Blue Ridge Rescue Barn pays a small nominal rent for their use. This arrangement allows the organization to focus its resources where they matter most: on the animals and our mission.

Donations to Blue Ridge Rescue Barn support the care and keeping of our residents and the programs that extend our mission into the community. They provide feed and hay, veterinary care, medications, supplements, bedding and supplies, pasture and habitat upkeep, and the many other necessities of daily sanctuary life. They also help support our small team of skilled caregivers who directly provide the exceptional, individualized care we have promised every resident who calls BRRB home.

Our founding donors gave Blue Ridge Rescue Barn an extraordinary beginning. What happens next belongs to all of us.

A sanctuary isn’t sustained by its buildings or its land. It is sustained day after day, year after year, through the care provided within them. Our residents depend on us every single day, and there will always be more animals who need a safe place to land. The original investment gave this sanctuary its home. Now, community support, donations, and grants are what will allow its work to continue—not just for the animals here today, but for those who will need us five, ten, and twenty years from now.

The sanctuary is here. The foundation has been laid.
Together, we make sure it lasts.

Rescue is only the beginning.

Our Vision

We envision a world where animals are treated with compassion and respect, and allowed to live full lives free of cruelty.

Our Values

Kindness:

We demonstrate care and compassion for ourselves, others, and the animals we serve.

Collaboration:

We recognize the impact of partnering with other organizations and individuals that share similar goals. We work cooperatively in a spirit of collaboration with individuals and organizations to protect, promote and enhance the well-being of farm animals.

Respect:

We respect the intrinsic value of animals, people and the environment.  We respect organizations with which we interact and strive to demonstrate respect in all our actions.

Integrity:

We are committed to enacting the mission of Blue Ridge Rescue Barn. We do what we say we will do, and we take ownership of our work and our actions, including our mistakes.

Stewardship:

We ensure stewardship of the reputation and resources of the Blue Ridge Rescue Barn. We strive to balance available resources with realistic and positive outcomes for animals, people and the environment.

    Rescue

At Blue Ridge Rescue Barn, we rescue farm animals confronting abuse, abandonment, neglect, and special needs. Here, they learn that they are safe and loved. We meet each resident where they are and work to build a bond based on trust and respect. We also believe in supporting others doing this lifesaving work. The needs are so great for animals in our area, and we know that by working together we will make the greatest impact. Many of our residents have come from local rescues who were over capacity or under resourced.

    Educate

We firmly believe in our ability to not only nurture animals, but also make a significant impact on the lives of those who interact with them. At Blue Ridge Rescue Barn, we are dedicated to educating the community about the unique and wonderful qualities of each resident. We know that through first hand experiences shared with these incredible and often underestimated animals, the community will come to love and appreciate them as we do. We are hopeful that we can inspire others to join us in advocating for their welfare.

    Engage

Experience the transformative power of meeting animals rescued from the harsh realities of animal agriculture. While watching videos online provides accurate and important insight, encountering our resident "ambassadors" in person is truly eye-opening. Every one of our residents is a survivor, and these animals serve as living testaments to resilience and hope. Join us on a journey of compassion as we strive to inspire a more humane and empathetic future for farm animals. Blue Ridge Rescue Barn is a place where you can witness the impact that sanctuary has on animals and, we hope, on all who interact with them here.

Creating Change for Farm Animals

Farm animals are often overlooked in the broader conversation about animal welfare. In fact, according to Last Chance for Animals, 97% of the 10 billion animals tortured and killed each year are farm animals.
