HORSE

Bayou

Bayou is our very cute pony with a big personality.  He was rescued from Mississippi (hence the name) where he was found tied to a tree, in deep mud, with no food or water after his previous elderly caretaker had passed away.  It is thought that he may have been there for days before being discovered.  While he was being loaded up, a horse from a nearby pasture (Oak) became frantic, pacing, running, and crying out. It became clear that these two were bonded, and needed to stay together. Luckily, that horse’s owner was willing to part with him, and thus both Bayou and Oak were rescued that day. They went to live at a sanctuary in Mars Hill, until coming to live here in 2023.

Bayou enjoys a life beside his favorite friends, which include all the humans that care for him. He is the first to greet a new visitor, and always hoping for a treat and a pet. We are always entertained when he is around!

Recently, Bayou began a training program to provide him with exercise and enrichment. He works with Lindsey several times per week doing liberty training and taking long walks around the farm.

  We love our spirited Bayou!
