Bodie
Bodie came to us in the fall of 2025, all the way from New Jersey. His former owner originally brought him home with dreams of trail rides and adventures together. Very quickly, Bodie began struggling under saddle -showing stiffness, sudden lameness, and eventually even laying down during riding, unable to get up, it was clear that something was very wrong. After many tests and expert advise, Bodie was diagnosed with a condition called MFM (Myofibrillar Myopathy). This is a condition that affects a horse’s muscles and can make riding and exercise painful and unsafe. With that diagnosis came the realization that Bodie could never live the riding life she had imagined for him.
Loving him enough to let go, she chose Bodie’s comfort and future over her own dreams, and that decision brought him to us. Without sanctuary, horses like Bodie are often passed from person to person their whole lives. Some would push him to work harder, in an effort to get him ridable, and once it was clear that he could not be, he would be passed on to the next person, deemed not useful any longer. Luckily his former owner was committed to preventing this life, and we had a spot open for him. So many horses don’t have that option, and that is why sanctuaries are so critical to the humane care of unwanted horses.
Now Bodie will spend his days exactly as he deserves: safe, understood and cherished for who he is and not for what he can do. His personality is fantastic, fun loving, curious, and even a bit silly. He has never met a stranger! We love this big guy with all our hearts, and we know you will too!
