Zac and David

These sweet alpacas came to call our sanctuary home in the winter on 2025. They had a loving home for 10 years, and their owner worked hard to meet their needs, but found that it became too much to manage. Making the transition here gave them the support and consistency they needed to heal and settle.

Naturally curious yet wary of humans, they arrived very unsure of what to expect. We have been taking things slowly, meeting them exactly where they are and working every day to build trust and respect. Each small step is a huge victory!

One of the pair, David, arrived in especially rough shape, which made the beginning of our relationship very challenging. He was completely infested with mites and had lost a significant amount of his fiber, and had many scabs and sores on his body from being shorn in a rough manner. Over the course of 2 months, we worked diligently to eradicate the mites and support his skin and coat as it healed. Watching his transformation has been incredibly rewarding and a true testament to what consistent care can accomplish.

Today David and Zac enjoy life in their beautiful wooded pasture beside our other camelids (llamas Larry and Tom) and our three sheep. Surrounded by companionship, fresh air, and safety, they are finally able to relax and just be alpacas -exploring their surroundings and soaking up the peace. They have become much more comfortable with humans, and work hard to greet each visitor with a “boop” at the fence.
