Sheep Herd

The Girls: Ginger, Pearl, and Star

Our sheep herd came from a breeder that was advertising these girls for meat and/or breeding.  Sheep are often farmed for their wool and meat, during which they undergo painful and traumatic procedures and live in very stressful and overcrowded environments. Their temperaments are so gentle and peaceful, it is hard to imagine them having to deal with such horrific experiences.

When we saw the post online, we immediately reached out to the owner and within a week they were here at the sanctuary. Given their sweet nature, we had no doubt they would be a great fit with our special llama Larry. Within the first few minutes of their arrival, they all touched noses with Larry and seemed to decide that they were family.

Ginger is the matriarch of the sheep herd and the mother of Pearl, and the adopted mother to Star.  Pearl and Star are never far from Ginger’s side. You’ll find the girls sunning on the hillside or snuggled together in their house. They walk in lock step with each other, and take comfort in being together. If you’ve got a handful of treats, they will be your best friend too!

The Boys: Mac & Dusty

Mac and Dusty joined us in the Spring of 2026. Their former owner had gotten to a place where he was no longer able to give them the life he knew they deserved and reached out to BRRB. We are so grateful that he did, and we absolutely love these gentlemen! They are full of personality, and can be heard calling out to their caregivers from across the farm. They were thrilled to join the girls and the 5 of them are now inseparable. Being a prey animal, sheep take comfort in numbers, so the larger herd has only been a positive for their well being.
